"We will be friends until forever, just you wait and see."
We had a fun evening among the beautiful bluebells in the Katoski Greenbelt last week. It's around this time every year that Beau starts peeking in the deep forest on his drive home from work, delivering day-to-day updates when he gets home. And with the late spring we've had this year, I wasn't sure when he'd see that first sign of purple. But sure enough, just before Mother's Day, he came home from work last Monday and said it's time to go, there's a lot of purple out there.
I'm not sure if it was the long winter or the late snow that never seemed to end, but I seem to be appreciating the spring colors more than ever before. And the bluebells were no exception. They were bright and full this year and they nearly took my breath away. The best was Mila gleefully skipping onto the trails, catching her first sight of the big thick trees and the sea of purple blooms and exclaiming, "It looks like Beauty and the Beast in here!" It's enchanting and mysterious and quite magical in there.
It was definitely a top night. We spent a good hour getting lost, identifying all the different animal tracks, and stopping every so often to throw rocks in the river and take in the pretty bluebells. I don't know how many more years we'll have when Cruz enjoys this kind of adventure, so for now, we'll soak up how he turns into a little nature boy, finding boomerang shaped sticks, climbing in the inside of a rotting tree, or always finding the biggest rock and splashing it into whatever body of water he can find. And I definitely know we don't have long before he refuses to play along with his sister's antics, letting her change up the rules to every game in order to give herself an advantage, or happily plant one on her when I jokingly ask him to give his sis a kiss for the camera. I about died when he reached over and did just that! And then he threw his arm around her neck and gave her a headlock. That's more like it, Cruz!
All playfulness aside, watching their brother sister bond makes my heart melt more than anything else in this world. The way she looks up to her "Coozie", yet knows just how to rile him up, and his absolute patience with her, and how she makes him laugh, brings Beau and I so much joy right now. I looked at these pictures when I got home that night and smiled to think of their bond only growing deeper through the years. I pray they're always there for each other. And I pray they always take time to run through the forest, skip rocks in the water, and see that even a field of flowers can transport us right to our favorite fairy tale.
Love these!!!
