I'm continuing the good things train and adding a few from our hot hot hot Memorial Day weekend! I just saw on the news last night that we hit the longest stretch of 90+ degree days in May since the Dust Bowl in 1934! Record highs were broken more than one day over the holiday weekend and it went from winter, to spring, to summer in a matter of a month! It's hilarious to think that just a month ago, we had a big snowstorm, and this weekend, it nearly hit 100 degrees!
We spent a good part of the weekend in water, kicking off our three day weekend with a refreshing run through the multiple sprinklers in our yard. When Beau sold me on the irrigation system in our yard, I didn't think about how much fun the kids would have with it. We have eight different settings and it created quite the obstacle course for them! Saturday, we hit up George Wyth Beach for a picnic and some swimming, and Sunday and Monday we broke in our pool pass at The Falls. And in between lots of water play, we did all the things Americans do to kick off summertime. We smoked ribs and ate deviled eggs and coleslaw with friends, had more barbecue with family, and did some yard work. A little work mixed in with a whole lot of play!
686. Better late than never! Cruz is riding on two wheels and got the hang of it pretty quickly (once he made the decision to get on the bike!). We are looking forward to hitting the bike trails soon.
Beau picked up a perfectly pink strider bike for Mila to practice, too!
687. A Friday afternoon sprinkler party at the Jorgensens! Mila vs. the boys on the block!
688. Dinners on the deck - with freezy pops to follow!
689. We rarely do this, but we told the neighbor kids it was time for Cruz and Mila to have some time to play on their own. Mila usually hangs with all the boys quite well, but this particular night she was feeling a little left out. At first, Cruz was a little bitter about the whole idea, but ten minutes later, Beau and I watched from the deck as just the two of them played. Cruz taught Mila to pump on the swing, and Cruz discovered how fast he could go down a wet slide. We soon joined them and enjoyed a quiet night in our backyard, just us.
690. The return of the Date Box. We randomly grabbed one from our stash and had such a fun night digging into it together. This one was all Wild West themed. We made "John Wayne" drinks with iced tea, lemonade, and a shot of whiskey, whipped up some butterscotch "haystacks," turned on the personalized Spotify playlist, and entertained ourselves with the Murder at Dry Bend escape cape. Everything accept the whiskey was included in the box, and it made for a unique way to reconnect and have some fun.
691. The first of what I hope are many mornings at the Farmer's Market. It's an easy sell when Cottonwood's breakfast burritos are involved. :)
692. A beach day at George Wyth. We haven't visited this place in years, but have been intrigued to check it out now that Maxx Rentals now offers so many fun options to make the most of the water. When we told the kids we were going to the beach, I think they were picturing the beaches we played at in California last summer! I heard Mila ask Cruz if he was excited to play in the waves, and on the way there, she asked Beau and I if there were sharks there! But as soon as our feet touched the sand, they could have cared less what beach we were at. They wasted no time hopping in the water, tossing a frisbee in the air, and building a sandcastle kingdom on the shore. It was a wonderful way to spend our Saturday.
I guess there are sharks in the water! ;)
693. Beau and Cruz went to Solo in the theater on Saturday night, leaving Mila and I with an open slate to carve out some girl time. We decided to check another notch off our summer bucket list and get our nails done for summer. The look of puzzlement on Mila's face as she gets her feet scrubbed is enough to make this a more frequent date! I chose Strawberry Kiss, and Mila went for a pattern of pink and purple and green, wish silver sparkles of course!
694. Jo Jo's deviled eggs and a barbecue at Aram and Katy's house. We had smoked ribs, cheesy potatoes, coleslaw, and cobbler, played killer with the kids, and ended the night with one epic dance party set to the tunes of The Greatest Showman and Hamilton.
695. The return of my cut flower garden! Lilacs came first, followed by my first vase of soft pink peonies for Mila's room.
696. Breakfasts on the deck with my already bronzed boy!
