August | Making the most of the last few weeks at home, with donuts and sidewalk chalk and small town adventures and picnics at the neighborhood pond. And a Mila-dab for good measure. I wish that I could be like the cool kids. ;)
And the adults snuck in a little summer fun of our own! I showed up my husband in a 9-hole best shot, followed by yummy steaks and all the fixings at Kyle and Erin's.
A downtown adventure day, complete with Rocket's Donuts, Kingsley's playground, and of course, the best taco truck in town!
Sixty recipes in to Magnolia Cookbook! And two little sous chefs lending a hand in the kitchen. They only like stirring and cracking eggs.
An afternoon of mini-golf and red slushies, most of which ended up down the front of Mila's dress.
Irish Fest, where Beau and I reconnected with a bit of Ireland with the Petries. But Tom is the one who bought himself a kilt. :)
I think this is when the never-ending rain started! Mila and I got rained on during a tea party! It poured, but ended up being the sweetest of adventures with my girl. We danced on the wet sidewalk, listened to the rain fall from underneath a pretty trellis, and later picked up the boys and took them to Christopher Robin in the theater. The night before was a little bit of Ireland, but this day was all about feeling like we lived in London. Both different, both equally dreamy.
I moved into a new office and had the best assistant helping me out by stealing all my books.
We felt fortunate to be a part of the opening of Cedar Falls' newest elementary school. We love the playground, love riding our bikes along the brick sidewalks on the west side of the building, and love all the fun learning spaces inside the walls of Aldrich Elementary. Cruz and I found his classroom one night and enjoyed peeking in the windows to get a preview of his 2nd grade year.
It's no secret we are big fans of all things tacos, especially when they come from our favorite taco truck in town. We love them so much that Beau and his buddies hired them to serve tacos at a party this summer. The place is called Los Reyes and they have the best story of how they came to be. Antonio, one of the owners, used to work at a factory here in town and his mom would send him to work with a burrito every day. Several of his co-workers, also from Mexico, would comment on how amazing his lunch smelled, and how it reminded them of their own mothers' cooking back home. So Antonio's mom started making more burritos, taking them twice a week and charging a few bucks. Soon enough, word spread and she made enough money to open up the taco truck. And now, they're getting ready to open up their first restaurant, also in Waterloo. There's my plug - now go order some street tacos!
Phone snaps from Adventureland with my fearless roller coaster fanatics!
And just like that, it's back to school time. Morning routines and afternoon walks or bike rides to school. The kids were blessed with the best teachers this year and my favorite part of each day is hearing all the stories about their days.
September | Bike rides to the farmer's market, date nights and reading nook hangs, the start of flag football, soccer, piano, and dance, and a Friday night at the apple orchard.
They started this thing where they try and coerce us to let them share a twin bed. And some nights we let them.
The end of an era in our favorite Panera booth, closing a long and fulfilling read through of the Bible, and wishing our sweet Nat Pat away on a three-year adventure to Asia. More on this to come...
Signs of fall...soup and mums and pumpkin patch adventures. Nature walks every week with Mila while Cruz learns piano with Dyan. And sweet reminders of the amazing tribe of women God's put in my corner after a long and exhausting week.
Movie nights and downtown shopping dates with mom and Mila. The best way to spend a Friday and Saturday in the fall.
An early morning trip for donuts with the Pattersons - on a school day!
And what most of our mornings look like
And finally, our first official birthday sleepover and one epic nerf war. I love that both Beau and Mila couldn't help but take part. :)
