Merry Christmas from the Jorgensens

Another year of Christmas jammies.  Every year I say it's going to be the last one, and then they just keep showing up on my doorstep. ;)

It's crazy to say, but this is our last Christmas of the decade!  A decade ago, Christmas forever took on a whole new meaning as we fell head over heels for a little two month old baby named Cruz.

Our Top Ten Holiday Moments this December, continued...

5. I didn't take many pictures, but we had a fun night with siblings last week.  Our time together these days typically involves a birthday party, holiday get-together, or just loud cousins and early bedtimes, so it was fun to get baby-sitters and meet for a little night out just us adults.  We played Geeks Who Drink at Singlespeed, a night designed for my movie-watching, pointless trivia-knowing, conspiracy-minded family, and sure thought we had it in the bag until we were announced as 6th place - out of eight!  Place or not, we declared this our official Wednesday night commitment - at least every month or so!

Jordan and Kelli had to go home to take their baby-sitter home, but the four of us kept the party going at Lighthouse.  We were pretty much the only people there, which meant we controlled the Touch Tunes and made friends with the 70 old bartender lady.  There have been a few late and memorable nights with these two this month and they definitely account for some magical Christmas memories. ;)

6. No pictures of this night, but a great video or two to remind me of our impromptu family game night we had after Mila's winter recital.  We played Who's the Dude, a hilarious game great for all ages, then sat around a big dessert charcuterie board and played Balderdash, an old favorite we had forgotten about.  Taylor and Kate ended up staying the night and we all went to J's in our pajamas the next morning.  After several games of Mario Kart of course!

7. We were running a late so I didn't get any pictures of this night either, but we saw the new Star Wars on Saturday night and it was wonderful!  Okay, the movie was good, but can I get an amen for how great of an experience the theater provides these days?!  We purchased our seats ahead of time so were able to walk in on a Saturday night just minutes before the previews started, we were in the Ultra screen room and it literally feels like you are engulfed by the movie, and we had both reclining AND heated seats.  Beau and Cruz sat in one of the two-seaters and Mila and I took the other and threw up the arm rest to make a bed.  Mila brought a pillow and blanket and the two of us pretty much spooned while we watched Star Wars on this huge screen.  Oh and we snuck in lots of Junior Mints and Hot Tamales so we pretty much lived our best life.

8. I played elf a little last week and had fun putting together a few "dinner in a box" packages to bless some friends last week.  I made a huge batch of my favorite slow-roasted sauce, filled jars with homemade cinnamon honey butter, grabbed some wine, treats, and baguettes, and had the most fun making them pretty.  I had a few friends in mind but made more sauce than I planned so I got a couple extra packages ready and thought God would give me ideas on who might need it.  And a few minutes later, this picture of a friend's sick daughter popped up on my Facebook feed!  Their family has had a rough go the past couple of months and I without a doubt knew they'd be surprised to have a care package show up at their door.  She had the sweet response and I left her house that day fully convinced that giving is just so much better than receiving.

9. We've watched a lot of Christmas movies together this season, but I hadn't carved out a night to watch one all to myself.  I had a lot I could have been doing this night - presents to wrap, food to prep, bathrooms to clean, but I hit the pause button on all of it, grabbed a sugar cookie and threw a splash of Rumchata in my eggnog and sat down to watch my favorite Jude Law and The Holiday in front of the fire.  It was the prettiest scene, my heart felt at peace, and I went to bed that night feeling the magic of a quiet Christmas night so much.  And the next night I watched The Family Stone and had one marathon wrap session!

10. And last but certainly not least, a hot cocoa hike and a FROZEN lake to drink it on!  Saturday, the four of us set out on a little excursion to our favorite "Lake Honeybee."  The weather was fit for sweatshirts, the sun felt so warm on our faces, and we stayed out there for nearly three hours.  We've seen and loved Hartman for all its seasons, but had yet to see it like this.  The leaves were still golden, but the streams and big lake were completely frozen over.  It looked straight out of a scene from Frozen 2!  We had a little cocoa picnic right on the frozen lake, practiced our triple axels, and Beau even brought a pocket knife to carve our names in our favorite tree.  It was a special afternoon and I sure hope we always find a little magic in the woods together.  Especially around the holidays.
