Our Simple Valentine's Day
We made it to the last day of February. It's been a long, hard year. ;) When I look outside at the heaps of snow, it doesn't look like spring will show its face anytime soon, but I'm always surprised how quickly it can all change. It's been the wildest semester but I feel fresh air and clean slates on the horizon. And in the meantime, it's sure fun to dream about green grass and garden veggies and late summer nights on the deck. We learn grit through these harsh winters and can appreciate the warm summers even more because of them!
In honor of the last day of February, a little Valentine's post. We made good use of one of the many snow days this month and got all the Valentine's done. Cruz wanted to write the names of all his classmates himself and reminded me of myself when he paid careful attention to the color of the sticky hand he gifted to each of his friends.
We spent that afternoon baking some heart-shaped cookies to share with teachers and friends and rallied our life group girls to help frost and decorate them. I actually wasn't planning on having them do this but sort of ran out of time and decided to multi-task a little. And it was the most fun we've had at life group this year!
Caught in the act!
These two and their little love fests. Cruz secretly loves her affection.
Such a fun night! We love what these girls bring to our home every month and love how excited our kids get to spend time with them. I'm convinced that the are paying close attention to the things we invest in and the ways God is shared in this home of ours. And we may just decorate cookies every month because these creative souls knocked it out of the park.
Cruz broke a cookie when attempting to frost it so Haylee helped him piece it back together. They created a stitched up "broken" heart and it quickly became Cruz's favorite masterpiece.
We celebrated Valentine's Day the next day with our own little love fest at home. It was a busy day without much time to prepare, but after a craft paper table cloth and a fondue pot, we quickly had the makings of a magical little night for the four of us. We had cheese fondue followed by chocolate fondue, dipped everything from baby potatoes to broccoli to berries and shortbread cookies, and took turns filling in the blanks of why we loved each other. It was a simple, love filled night in every way.
