Fourth of July Weekend

It was a steamy hot Fourth of July weekend, but we made the most of it with lots of water activities and lots of fun with family and friends.  We spent a few good days at the pool last week and appreciated the festive activities they had for the kids.

Since we all had the Friday before the 4th off of work, we took a little day trip to Backbone with the Garvins and Shaws.  Between discovering Ledges last weekend and then exploring a new part of Backbone on Friday, I am feeling like we are seeing some of the most beautiful treasures of our state this summer.  We've been to Backbone before and Beau and I always felt like we were missing something.  And then Friday, when we pulled up to a completely different entrance to the park, we realized we absolutely were.

We hiked for awhile before coming to a trail that led directly to one of the many freshwater springs.  The water was cold but refreshing after our hike and we all changed into water shoes and made our way upstream.

We walked for a while before coming upon a sandbar hidden but just outside our parking lot.  So instead of picnicking in the shelter house, we hauled our gear through the stream and set up camp for the day on the beach.  We felt like we had struck some gold with this little treasure island less than an hour from our house.  It was such a great kickoff to our holiday weekend.

Friday night we golfed!  It was a festive red, white, and blue themed Twilight and a beautiful night to golf the back nine at Sunnyside.

And Saturday, we spent the 4th at my Mom and Dad's.  The kids got lots of cousin time, we had a barbecue with all the American fixings, and got home just in time for a night cap with the neighbors and fireworks to end the night.  It was a great weekend!
