"a portrait of each of my children, once each week, in 2015"

Cruz: Cruz wanted to be Darth Vader this year, pretty fitting that he and Dad are making their way through the Star Wars movies right now, learning the history and evolution of Anakin Skywalker to the Dark Side. He looked pretty boss in his costume this weekend, especially up next to this life-sized Darth that he scored from Uncle Gabe for his birthday.  Cruz also learned the dark side of trick-or-treating Saturday, as Beau gave him a lesson in tooth decay.  This quick, two minute talk about overdoing it on the candy had quite the impact on Cruz.  He played it safe most of Sunday and warned Mila every time she whined for another sucker, "Mila, you don't want to get a hole in your tooth."  I finally had to talk him into eating his Pez from Grandma Sunday night!

Mila: The fact that this little Dorothy won't be two for another couple of months didn't stop her from leading the pack in our Halloween adventures this weekend.  We decided to join the other thousand or so of our closest friends for trick-or-treating on Main Street Friday, and Mila figured out how to work the system pretty quickly.  She would weasel her little way ahead of us, find the next bowl of candy, and either get as close as she could to the person handing it out, or sneak up behind them and grab her own piece!  She was so polite, exclaiming a big "You're Welcome!" after every piece dropped in her pumpkin, and she strutted around proudly in her pigtails all weekend.  I couldn't enough of her in that costume - it was another one of those moments in parenthood where I wish I could've froze her in a box for the rest of time.
