Snowy Saturday

I've noticed through the years that typically my favorite holiday memories involve some snow.  I love snow in December, and let's be honest, in January, too - the anticipation of the forecast the days before, waking up with sleepy eyes to catch a glimpse to see if it's still flying amidst the streetlights, making sure we're stocked up on the essentials like toilet paper and plenty of hot cocoa, and the calm invitation to do nothing but settle under a blanket and enjoy it.  And when the first snow of the year is forecasted for a Saturday morning in December, there's really nothing better.

Even though we only got a couple inches, it was enough to create a marshmallow world for our enjoyment.  And when the Sorbes dropped hot cocoa and lattes off bright and early, we knew we were in for a treat.  Our little cul de sac came out to play - the kids immediately got to work on the snow forts they remembered from last year, Enzo, our favorite mountain dog was pretty much in paradise leaping through the snow and looking like a Christmas card, and parents shoveled enough snow to look as though we were working when really we just congregated in the street to catch up.  And then, when we couldn't feel our toes and the kids' noses looked like Rudolph, we all filed in to fill up our dryers with wet gloves and fill up our cups with the most satisfying cup of cheer.

It doesn't look as though we're going to get Christmas snow, so I'll be sure to tuck this past snowy Saturday away for the keeping.

And yes, our kids did change out of their snow gear and put on fresh pajamas.  As if there's any other way to do it.
