An Awe and Wonder Winter

I'm a four seasons girl at heart, but I typically only love the snow from warm inside my house, preferably with a soup on the stove, the fireplace on, and a good movie night planned.  But for whatever reason, probably being cooped up inside a lot this past year, we have gotten out to play in the snow more this winter than ever before.  I actually think it's because I finally bought myself a pair of snow pants!

We happened to still be on winter break for the first big snow of the year and it was pure magic.  The snow fell all day, big, thick flakes you could literally see pour from the clouds as you squinted to look up.  We escaped to our favorite woods and walked the flats for two hours.  The creeks were frozen, Beau wanted to explore areas typically too overgrown or wet to walk, and you could have heard a pin drop at times it was so quiet and peaceful.  Every now and then we'd plop right there in the snow for a snow angel or a cool drink, and then trudge back through the powder, back to the truck for some tacos at Pablos on an empty Main Street.  The stuff snow days are made of.

And then there was our sledding day.  Where Beau and I realized we've arrived at that stage where no one needed carried up the hill.  And Cruz almost got another concussion.  And I realized that I may not be a skier if I get anxious enough with my butt planted on a sled.

And finally, our Sunday church at Katoski, where instead of a sea of bluebells we explored a cathedral of ice crystals and frosted trees.  We studied animal tracks, pretended we were in Arendelle, and split up from the boys for the back half when they wanted to explore and we just wanted to sit.

It's been a winter to remember, with maybe even more to come.  And come what may, for I've got my snow pants ready.
