"a portrait of each of my children, once each week, in 2018."
Cruz: I can't get over how old you're looking in pictures lately. And not only are you looking older, but you're acting like it, too. You keep asking for a PS4 or XBox, and the other day you asked me if you can get a phone when you're in 5th grade. You're also becoming more aware of the world around you and it's brought some worry into your daily thoughts and wonderings. Tornados, intruders, fires, you name it. We've had a lot of big conversations the last couple weeks and I'm in territory with all of it. The most important thing is that you're willing to talk about it as you think about it, a quality I sure hope never changes.
Mila: You had your first t-ball practice last week and it was pretty much the cutest thing ever. You've taken the whole thing more serious than we expected, asking us to practice with you and showing a lot of interest in this being-on-a-team thing. I learned how to French braid last week and you looked adorable in your shorts and t-shirt (you never just wear a t-shirt!). Your first practice went well, except you informed us you got too sweaty. There was only one time you started to cry and I asked you if you wanted to quit. You said an emphatic NO! and later told me it's because you watched a Barbie episode where Barbie wanted to quit her singing competition but Skipper talked her into sticking it out. A decision that paid off for Barbie, and inspired Mila to return to night number two!
