|| We drove up to MSP mid-morning on Tuesday, hopped on Sun Country Airlines around 3 and landed in San Francisco around 5! One of the nice things about heading West is you always gain a few hours of vacation!
We're off!
|| The kids took their carry-on bags quite seriously, doing their best to "help" me pack, aka, throw the most random of things on my carefully calculated piles of planned belongings. Mila was the absolute worst! At one point, she had stuffed her Bitty Baby diaper bag full of baby accessories and came into the bedroom carrying that, her baby, and a decorative suitcase from her room, stuffed to the brim with random odds and ends she had collected. Her excitement and anticipation was adorable, but I had to wait until she was in bed to finish my packing!
Along for the ride and they don't even know where we're going!
|| The kids were so good on the flight. They were as excited about the canned orange juice and the gum they got on the plane as they were about being in the air! They drank out of their little plastic cups with straws and pretended it was coffee. Sipped and slurred and were content as little mice with their kindles and movies. Cruz played with his pencil box I converted into a little Lego case (I've taken this on every trip for two years), and Mila fell asleep like a dream for the last two hours of the flight. I read my book, took a little nap, and was reminded of the many perks of traveling by plane.
|| Actually getting to our first destination in Sausalito proved to be a little interesting! First, Cruz's ears were bothering him big time on descent. Then, our first rental car was (a mid-size SUV, the same thing we had taken to get to MSP) entirely too small for our bags and stroller so we had to start all over waiting in line, getting a new car, and finding it in the parking lot. Then, hangry and tired and cold (it was upper fifties and we were all in shorts), we hit rush hour just as we were crossing the Golden Gate Bridge. Mila whined for an hour that her tummy hurt and by the time we found an In-N-Out Burger on the other side of the bridge, no one was in the mood for much of anything! But my first glimpse of the big bridge was pretty amazing!
|| Everything turned a corner when we found ourselves at home at the Acqua Hotel. This is, after all, one of the kids' favorite parts of any vacation. They love the close quarters, the notepads, the TV, and running the halls and checking out all the amenities. Mila wasted no time making several pretend phone calls to Grandma and Harper, and Beau found the free wine and cheese bar they offered every night. We capped off our travel day with a glass of merlot and a homemade chocolate chip cookie. I think this would do. :)
