Summer Vacation 2018 || We Love Lake Tahoe
Beau and I easily remember our first trip to Lake Tahoe, when Cruz was just eighteen months old, as one of our favorite vacations. We were not expecting it to be as beautiful as it was, and forever remember the clean crisp air, the fresh mountain smells, and the crystal clear waters of beautiful Lake Tahoe. But because Cruz was just a little guy, we also remember that we couldn't take advantage of many of the adventures the lake had to offer. We specifically remember driving to Olympic Village that year and seeing dozens of huge rafts floating down the river. We had one of those "if we ever return..." moments and soon forgot about it.
Fast forward six years later with two kids who love a great adventure and a Truckee River Rafting adventure was the first thing we had our sights on! We booked a mid-morning float down the river and awaited our departure time at the cutest little beach in Tahoe City. Beau helped the kids build an epic sandcastle and I once again took in the views of this beautiful place.
Our Monday afternoon was spent in the very best of ways, on a large inflatable raft, with a cooler of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, chips, and cold beer, floating down a river in the middle of the Sierra Nevadas. It was about a four-hour float, complete with plenty of sand bars and rocky islands to dock, shallow water to play in, and even some rapids that provided just the level of adventure and entertainment us novices were in the mood for. It was a good good day and I would highly recommend adding this to your bucket list if Tahoe is already on it.
We joined the Blohm family and headed into Olympic Village for outdoor wood-fired pizza for dinner. We wandered around the cute little ski town, admired the thrilling gondola cables that took you to the highest point in Squaw Valley, and listened to live music while we waited for our pizza.
And back to our pretty home away from home for s'mores around the fire and moonlit games of ping pong before bed. Lake Tahoe, you are good for the soul.
