"Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall."
-F. Scott Fitzgerald
Pictures from our past weekend...a weekend of rain showers during breakfast, Saturday night movies and carpet picnics, and corn mazes and hay rides at the pumpkin patch. October has arrived and fall is in the air!
We had breakfast at one of our favorite places, Newton's, in downtown 'Loo. And we've found the answer to Cruz's attention span at restaurants --- the toy catalog. Pair Fischer Price with a chocolate milk and Beau and I enjoyed a lovely little breakfast while the rain poured outside.
After biscuits and gravy and pancakes, we strolled over to the Riverloop Plaza for the annual Touch a Truck adventure. We stumbled upon this little event last year and Cruz was in four-wheel heaven! The rain held on for a little bit, giving us time to give TC Panther a high five and sit in a few big rigs, but soon it started pouring and we bailed for sweats and an afternoon at home.
This was Cruz's look for most of the morning anyway! He was a little more aware (and annoyed by the constant honking of horns) this year. :)
The older I get, the more I welcome weekend nights at home. We curled up to watch Cars for the fortieth time and Cruz fell asleep in his daddy's arms before Lightning McQueen returned to Radiator Springs.
Sunday lunch after church. It takes much concentration to show mommy how old you're about to be, but he's proud he can do it! Three is a hard one!
Cruz napped, Beau settled in for the Bears' game, and I played in the kitchen for the afternoon. I lit candles, peeled apples and potatoes, and soon had an apple crisp baking in the oven and baked potato soup simmering in the slow cooker. We had plans for the pumpkin patch after the Bears game and I wanted dinner ready when we returned.
Our afternoon at the pumpkin patch. I had plenty of time to explore as Cruz didn't want to leave the bounce house! I tried to explain to him that there was nothing very fall (or photogenic) about the Spiderman bounce house we refused to leave, but he wasn't having it.
I settled for some still lifes instead...
Oh, but the pumpkin chucker vied for my boys' attention! Cruz (and his dad) were mesmerized at the pumpkinater and Cruz was pretty convinced he could run the cannon himself by the end of the demonstration.
A walk through the petting zoo. Cruz just so happens to be an animal whisperer...
And finally...the pumpkins!
Cruz also enjoyed the hay ride, although I was starting to wonder if the bumps would send me into pre-term labor!
Little pumpkins, little feet...
Our little monster, right before we called it a day and headed home for some soup, apple crisp, and a little Walking Dead before bed. Tis the season, right!?
