While of all years, this would have been the one to get out of town after spending a whopping nine extra snow days at home this winter, we knew it was best to stay put with a big and busy April on the horizon. So we made a spring break bucket list, looked forward to the warmer temperatures and melting snow, and had a great little week staycation at home.
We built a leprechaun trap, or I guess I should say they built a leprechaun trap. Mom and I enjoyed a couple days away to Minneapolis to do some shopping and Beau and Cruz made some plans to catch that sneaky leprechaun while I was away. And when Beau is involved, naturally a table saw someone gets used. The kids were convinced they'd get him this year, but once again the little bugger outsmarted us all. But left some goodies in his tracks!
Love these little videos of their progress. In the second one, they are discussing what they would choose if the leprechaun gives them three wishes. Until Beau had to throw in an inappropriate "dad joke!" :)
We spent a long afternoon at the library. Cruz led us through the children's stacks in search of all the little spring break scavenger hunt cards, Mila and I assembled some craft projects, we had slushies and danced to the Beach Boys, and all three of us checked out new books. I finally started Where the Crawdads Sing and have buzzed through it. It is masterfully written and reminds me of To Kill a Mockingbird.
The adults got out for a little date night!
And the ladies had a little time at the salon! I got some summery highlights, Mila got a few inches off. And she flapped her jaw nonstop, just like a lady at the salon is supposed to do!
Mila and I worked up some essential oil concoctions for her room spray collection. She's now got one for sleepy, awake, happy, and calm. Any guesses on which one will run out first?!
The magna-tiles have been well loved as of late and someone is becoming quite advanced in her building skills!
We spent a whole day tearing up the town together, first for donuts at our favorite new donut shop, then to the Imaginarium to take advantage of the $1 admission for spring break week. We had never been to the Imaginarium and the kids loved it - especially the science show on combustion. It involved lots and fire and Cruz even got to help blow a few things up. ;)
And very likely the highlight of the kids' spring break week was a cousin sleepover at our house. This has been brewing for a long time and they were all so excited that we finally made it happen. We played tag at Aldrich's playground, made pizzas and filled a lot of cups for dinner, played lots of Just Dance, and had popcorn and candy and watched Small Foot before bed. Usually when they are all together, the adults are too, so it was fun to just get to sit back and observe how much fun they have together and how much they truly love one another! We were all a little nervous about how Harper would sleep, but she stayed snug as a bug in between Beau and I all night. She was like a little bean that didn't move - very unlike our two squirrels!
And speaking of Just Dance? We got this out again and had so much fun! Prepare to be amazed at the dance moves... :)
And that pretty much sums up our spring break week! Spring Break is always such a teaser of what's to come - warmer weather, adventures big and small, and precious time off with my favorite people. But in the meantime, we'll dance like nobody's watching and find the joy in the everyday dad jokes. There's plenty to go around over here!
