Dr. Seuss Day || March 2019

When Cruz was just a little guy, we used to celebrate his love of reading with a little party to welcome March and celebrate Dr. Seuss.  We'd spend an entire Saturday doing colorful and creative things together - orange Lorax pancakes, craft projects, something sweet to snack on, and lots of our favorite books to snuggle up and read together.  I vividly remember doing this the first March after Mila was born.  I was still home on maternity leave and I got the kids each a new Seuss book and a pair of silly socks to wear.  We spent a lot of time in our bedroom that season, snuggled up on our white bedspread with all the colors of the rainbow around us.  Those were the good ole days.

For one reason or another, mostly because we couldn't stay in that little bedroom forever, I let our sweet little Dr. Seuss day slide.  And then Mila's teacher introduced Dr. Seuss theme days at preschool the week leading up to his birthday and she got all into it and I realized she had no memory of how fun our Dr. Seuss days used to be.  So I threw together a little party, which soon explained to her why I just so happened to have the perfect hat for her to wear on crazy hat day... :)

We decorated cupcakes to look like the cover of One Fish Two Fish, made enough to share with the preschool class, and saved the rest for us.  They went perfectly with our Dr. Seuss themed lunch - green eggs and ham, Cat in the Hat cheese, goldfish crackers, pink ink (strawberry milk) and fruit kabobs to resemble the signature striped hat.  Target dollar bins always have Dr. Seuss themed treasures in March, and I put together a little pencil bag with a bookmark, notepad, and color-changing pen.  And of course, two new books to add to Seuss shelf in the reading nook.

After lunch, we put together a little Lorax craft with cupcake liners and striped straws, and then we settled in for The Lorax for the rest of the afternoon.  Simple, sweet, and very much Seuss.
