Be Mine Valentine
We are gearing up for a simple and much needed Valentine's weekend at home, but before that, Cruz and Mila both get to celebrate this day of love with parties at school. Mila's class is having a pajama party, and I made sure to wash her perfectly pink jammies with the little red hearts on them. Cruz's class has spent the entire month exploring themes around Valentine's Day and it's been such a joy to hear his stories. Their dramatic play center has transformed into a post office, and at the end of every day there's typically one or two letters in his cubbie, with little crayola hearts and a signatures from friends like Eli, Elena, and Liam. Each week, Mrs. W has been channeling their fascination with science by conducting "love potions" with them. Cruz came home Tuesday explaining what happens when little candy hearts are combined with baking soda and vinegar. Their sensory table has even taken on a sweet side, right now filled with flour, measuring cups, and cookie cutters. Writer's workshop has been focused on writing about friends and family, and we've been working hard every night at home signing and assembling our Valentine's.
Without further adieu, this year's Valentines...
For Cruz's friends, Star Wars, of course...
And wild animals for Mila and her wild two year old friends...
And lip balms for our teachers, who are absolutely "the balm."
This was the first year Cruz was required to write each of his friends' names on their cards, a feat I remember thinking about last year wondering if he'd be ready for the challenge. I can't believe how much he has learned this year, and how bittersweet it is to think about him doing this in kindergarten next year. I'm not ready, but he is.
Happy Valentine's Day! Wishing you a day filled with all the things you love.
