on the iphone | early fall 2019

|| Apple picking family selfies at Wilson's

|| And a beautiful afternoon at Big Grove with Rob, Jill, and sweet little Olivia.

|| A few days away with some pretty wonderful gals to celebrate Jess turning 40.  I had never been to Door County and it's now on my list of places to go back.  Our beach house was right off Lake Michigan, creating the perfect backdrop for our early fall getaway.  We made homemade pizzas and hung around the fire in our cozies, spent a day shopping and eating our way through Fish Creek, and all left refreshed and reminded that the investment we make in each other is one of the most worthwhile investments we can make in a life.

|| Only one picture from our last sunset kayak float at Big Woods with the Shaws.  Followed by a little late night barbecue at Blue Barn and some interesting conversations for the ride home...

|| September snuggles as we re-acclimate to earlier bedtimes and even early mornings.

|| A little brother-sister story-time while I stock up on all the fall magazines and books.

|| Mila received a book from her classmates in which they all drew a portrait of her and wrote "I see Mila" in their very best kindergarten writing.  This book was both a treasure and a source of laughter for a week straight.  She looked at it constantly and it still sits on her nightstand.

|| A Friday road trip to Center Grove Orchard's for some agri-tainment fun.

|| Kids in the kitchen on a Sunday afternoon.  I got the ingredients out but left the rest to them.  Cruz read the recipe step-by-step and they did pretty much everything except work the oven.  I'm pretty sure they help because it ensures they'll get a spoon or two of cookie dough!

|| I got to accompany Mila on her first field trip of the year, a ride just up the street to Safety City.  I was reminded how adorable a roomful of kindergarteners are!  One little girl raised her hand to tell the police officer that her dad went to jail once and Mila's pretend 911 call rationale was "there's a dog in that car and it's hot outside." :)

|| Homecoming week!  This was Wild West Day, or in our case, what would I wear to a country music concert day... We did the best we could with Cruz but I think Mila pulled off her little cowgirl ensemble quite well.

|| I escaped to the woods with Jess and Katie one Wednesday afternoon.  I had a mile long to-do list and nearly turned down the offer for an afternoon hike, but changed my mind right as I was driving by Blessed Beginnings.  I picked up the kids and met the clan at Hartman.  We explored muddy paths our family has never ventured down, ate apples and got covered in burrs, and watched our little worker bees spruce up and expand the stick hut on the edge of the trail.  Imaginations were running wild and fresh air had filled us up in the best way.  We all went home with content hearts that night, ready to finish the week strong.

|| Such a fun weekend in our favorite place celebrating Nate Guess turning 40.  Pizza at Luna Valley, Brad and Kate at Pulpit Rock, and some new fun and a little bit crazy memories made around a campfire at our favorite campsite.  It was the best night, followed by a not so great morning when Beau fell while fishing in a trout stream and breaking his thumb pretty good.  Not the best finish, but the stories will outweigh the injury (hopefully)... :)

|| Their little "book in a nook" sometimes ends up like this...

|| I started a little kindness jar on the piano with little slips of paper to fill out and keep track of times we do something kind for someone else.  Mila has decided her favorite way to share some love is through her sweet pictures and cards.  This week's recipient was Mr. Berns, the wonderful counselor at Aldrich.  Her picture is from the first day of school when she was sad and Mr. Berns introduced her to his moose puppet.  When she brought her card to him this week, he hugged her and said she brightened up his whole day.  That's the spirit, Mila girl!
