|| This was definitely a top night. A group of us did a night bike ride to SingleSpeed to watch The Diplomats play. We left Pattersons house by Lookout Park and enjoyed the leisurely 30 minute bike ride to downtown Waterloo. We stayed at SingleSpeed longer than expected, and soon discovered the ride home was maybe not as "leisurely." But definitely a lot more fun! It was pitch black on the trails and spooky and exhilarating. If Luke hadn't duct taped his spotlight to the front of his bike, we would have been in trouble!
|| More Decorah memories, some from my phone, some sent from Kate's...
|| Our friends the Kraayenbrinks started a sweet neighborhood soccer team this summer and Cruz was lucky to be a part of it. Since Tony owns his own website design company, the team was outfitted well with t-shirts, a website with a schedule and team information, and a thoughtful structure that ensured the kids learned lots of fundamentals but mostly just had fun. Our favorite part was the last night when all the parents scrimmaged the kids (and won!). Least favorite part? Probably when I accidentally tried to run over a large rock in the parking lot and caused "a little" damage to my Highlander. ;)
|| I had the best seed year yet and clipped many different colors and blooms for vases all over the house. Those buttercup yellow zinnias were a favorite of mine.
|| Small town adventure day in Grundy Center.
|| Home movies under a summer night sky before our feature presentation of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
|| A big family barbecue at our house, complete with a boys vs. kids touch football game, flashlight tag, a cousin movie night, and a big kid game of a*@hole on the deck.
|| My birthday dinner at Montage. The kids got to make their own pizzas and thought the rooftop setting was pretty fancy.
|| I was tired of all the lingering piles of laundry from the end of summer and loaded it all up and drove down the street to a laundromat one morning. Best decision ever! Laundry was done in an hour, we walked to Js for some cinnamon rolls, and the kids played UNO while I folded towels. I may just do this more often.
|| Summer ice cream adventures at Tootsies in La Porte City.
|| And more small town adventures to Denver with the Shaws and Garvins.
|| We crashed Owen 7th birthday party with the entire Gray side of the family! I'd say my little blondies blended in quite well with the many cousins!
|| Lil slugger
|| Our last week of summer, aka, bring the kids to work with mom
|| My sweet soon-to-be kindergartener all tuckered out from another summer day
|| Two of the best people got married in August and it was a joy to be there to be there to celebrate with them. And even more fun to play cribbage and drink an old fashioned with them.
|| Four family friendship bracelets to wear on the first day of school. Reminders to be brave, feel loved, and give that love back to others.
|| First day of school traditions! Smiley pancakes at J's Homestyle, aka, the best pancakes in town!
|| Four sweet Blessed Beginnings friends now in the same kindergarten class!
|| Chronicles of a good hair color, part 2.
|| A spontaneous girl date downtown to celebrate a successful first week of kindergarten! We shopped, we ate cookie dough, we had a ball strolling hand in hand down Main.
|| This girl and her Bitty! She had a pj and stuffed animal day at school this morning and when I asked her what stuffy she wanted to bring she said, "Well, I want to bring Bitty but I can't because she's real." She dresses her every morning for "school", asks her Alexa for a weather report to make sure her outfit choice is weather appropriate, and makes sure she has fresh pjs before bed every night. Her ways remind me of the way I used to play and it's fun to watch and smile from the sidelines.
