|| I went through a simple syrup phase early this summer and was never without 3-4 Weck jars of some sort of flavored syrup. Just one part water, one part sugar, boiled and dissolved with some sort of herb from the garden. Basil simple syrup for lemonade cocktails, lavender simple syrup for a yummy sangria, and mint simple syrup for our impromptu Father's Day taste test. Mmm...I'm suddenly thirsty. ;)
|| My first little harvest of all the green herbs for a chimichurri. The garden always gets a little overwhelming for me this time of year, but still leaves me inspired to use it well and savor all the good flavors we're able to grow ourselves.
|| Piddling away on my little house project list, tweaking shelves and admiring nooks and spaces that spark some joy.
|| Weenie Wednesday at Nelly's Hot Dog stand. The Nelly dog was our favorite, as were the hugs we got from Jenny Nelly herself.
|| Days at the pool with my little fish. Before Cruz lost his American flag shorts somewhere in Nashville...
|| Still making my way through Magnolia Cookbook. This raspberry pork loin and brussel sprouts salad was such a great combination together. One of my favorite things about committing to every recipe in a cookbook is that it's opened my eyes to new things I likely would have never tried before. Like chopped brussel sprouts for a green salad. Just trust me. :)
|| We signed up to take care of the gardens at Aldrich two different weeks this summer. We ride our bikes up in the morning, the kids take turns watering each little garden bed, Cruz checks on the progress of the things his class planted, and Mila feels like a big kid watering the kindergarten bed. It won't be long now before they both get to spend their days here. I'm sure all the emotions of this will set in later this month, but for now I'm mostly excited for the chapter that awaits.
|| Doing our best to keep the community lending libraries updated and organized. ;)
|| Stopping mid-dishes one night because the sunset was just too good to pass up. The kids were at the neighbors watching a movie, so Beau and I had a little date walking to an empty lot by our house to watch the sun go down. Memories of buying our own little plot of land before there were hardly any houses out here came flooding back and we reminisced about that full, fun, and hard season it was.
|| She makes one royal mess of her room when she plays, but I sort of love it. She's using her things and using her imagination!
|| We had a fun Friday night on the Cedar with the Shaws, singing along to one of our favorites.
|| And got to sing along to another favorite, Chris Stapleton, at our first Great Jones County Fair. Farm Bureau is a big sponsor of the event, so we enjoyed a VIP section with the Susongs, and were mostly thankful for a tent under our heads because it rained off and on the entire night.
|| A Sunday Funday exploring Waterloo. We brunched at Newton's after church, went on a big bike ride through George Wyth, grabbed a couple beers at the new outdoor German biergarten, and skipped rocks along the river before heading home. These summer days, when the day just sort of takes us free as a summer breeze, are some of my favorite days...
|| Burgers and chocolate shakes and lively games of UNO in our favorite booth on Main Street.
|| And a visit with my mom and these goons to the new Farm Shed downtown. Next time, we'll try it adults-only. ;)
|| We had a super fun night twilight golfing with friends one Friday night at Sunnyside.
|| This girl and her summer style. One day she's decked out in a twirly dress and all the accessories, the next day she wants to be one of the boys like Cruz.
