Vacation 2019 || A Day in Seaside

Our last full day in Florida swept us away down "30A", a highway on the Florida panhandle coastline dotted with numerous beach towns that look straight out of a magazine.  I felt like I had entered my own little slice of heaven and couldn't wipe the smile off my face.

Welcome to Seaside, Florida.  First stop, donuts at Five Daughters Bakery.

Seaside is basically a little beach town born right out of my idea of vacation perfection.  It's small, simple, beautiful, and charming, with gorgeous homes with wrap around porches, a row of air-stream food "trucks", a city center with the cutest shops and post office, and a little white church tucked away in the trees with outdoor seating.  There are bikes literally everywhere and it makes perfect sense that Seaside served as the primary set for the movie, The Truman Show.  And the beach and the sun-bleached sand was brighter and softer here than down the road in neighboring Destin.  We spent the morning exploring and shopping and falling in love with this little slice of heaven.

We grabbed lunch at a little shrimp hut right on the sand, where you order at the counter and then sit on a white deck right on the beach.  We ordered margaritas, peel and eat shrimp, baked oysters, and crab claws, and were close enough to the water for the kids to run back and forth while we waited for our food.  There was a good breeze, the drinks were cold, and our seats were perfectly situated to take in the turquoise water and the line of beachside cottages on either side.  I could have sat there all afternoon.

We ended our day in Seaside with a swim!  And just as a storm rolled in, we grabbed our things and headed back down 30A toward Destin for one final night on the beach.
